Should I Bother Retaking the ACT?

I did really well on my SAT, overall.

But I'm still going to take the SAT again in the fall, so I can hopefully get my Math score up by at least 100 points.

As for the ACT, I did much worse.

The ACT was way too fast for me. I'm naturally a slow reader, and am INCREDIBLY slow at math. I didn't even have time to actually attempt half of the science questions.

Should I just focus on the SAT? Does it look better to submit both scores?

Not really. I heard that most just send one or the other. You seem to be weak on the math. Try solving the Barrons math and possibly Dr. John Chung’s SAT Math. Both are extremely difficult, but will help. And as for reading… when you take practice tests ( and take A LOT of practice tests), try to time yourself so you have time left. For ex, if you normally have 24mins for the section, give yourself 19mins and so on… When I solved it quickly, the 24min section would take me 15 mins with 0~1 wrong. For ACT, just solve the official ACT prep book and keep retaking it. By the 3rd time you take the ACT, you will have substantially improved scores.

Nope.

Well are your SAT scores in line with the school you are applying to?

I would recommend taking the ACT again in September since there is not September SAT. Most people seem to have better ACT scores percentile wise - you have nothing to lose except a little bit of money and a Saturday morning. It could definitely be worth it if you do a little prep.

Screw the ACT. That test barely predicts your academic backing. It really only tests your high school’s rigor. People in better high schools do better on the ACT. The SAT is more of an equalizer. It covers less advanced academic material but it test that material in a way that makes you think a little more than the ACT. Concentrate on the SAT. Don’t give another dime to the greedy ACT company.
