Should I bother?

<p>I know its a dreaming reach but brown is my number 1 choice. Since I want to study cognitive science and linguistics and Browns department is kinda perfect. I’ve done three years of research in the field and will hopefully be an intel winner this year</p>

<p>I’m from New York.
gpa 3.5 no weight with a very strong upward trend. this puts me just inside the top 10% at my school</p>

<p>i’ve taken 6ap classes: biology5 world history3 us history5 chemistry5, English comp5 stats4
Also in terms of academics I spent a week at ohio state studying linguistics.</p>

and our academic league(quizbowl) has won numerous contests and appeared on tv
also countless hours of volunteer tutoring </p>

<p>I think you have a chance at Brown-not necessarily a great one, but it’s worth it to try. Your SATs and GPA are not the strongest, but you do have good SAT Iis, APs, and ECs. Also, you’re a minority (and not Asian) so that will also work in you favor.</p>

<p>Go for it. African American, science major, research, good EC’s, all in your favor. SATII’s are good enough, strong academic program, only weakness is gpa but upward trend, top 10% all good. You have a reasonably good chance, excepting the terribly low admit rate. If you win Intel you have a great chance, good luck.</p>
