Im not sure whether i should bring a car. Is it necessary to get around LA. I dont mind public transportation, but how much of a hassle is it to get to downtown LA. How much extra am i looking at paying for a year to bring a car with me?

its probably unlikely you’ll get ucla parking anyways, and public transportation is not a hassle and pretty cheap (25 cents with student id)

you’d be lucky to even get the chance to have a choice of whether or not you should bring your car

you have to win the lottery first

So when i apply for housing should i even try to apply for parking or is it better that i dont even attempt it?

You can attempt it but from what I’ve heard it is absolutely impossible to get a permit unless you can prove you have an off campus job that you must drive to or have a medical reason or family reason for needing to leave campus by car. My D is a freshman and next year she is living off campus in an apt. with a parking space since she knew she would never get a permit on campus.

She has not really needed a car this year. Mostly you are on campus or in Westwood. She has taken the bus to Santa Monica and has a friend who drove a bunch of them to a concert at the Staples Center. So basically you should not bring your car.
