Should I buy a printer?!

My mom wants me to buy a printer for college. But I feel that it is unneccesary and a waste of money. Is there any major advantages of having a printer in you room when you get 700pages/month from the school printers?

There are some ups and downs that I see:

Pro
Can print whenever, all nighters etc...
Convenience

Con
$$$$$- printer+cartridges is not cheap
More stuff to bring home
Reconnecting to laptop whenver I want to print

Can anyone share their experience with/without a printer?

Find out if you can store stuff during the summer; if so, then yes I would buy one. Printers are really cheap now (I know we're all on a college students' budget); about 100 bucks will get you a nice one.

It's really convenient to have one. Mine is a printer/copier/scanner and I can make photo copies with it, which is awesome because my school charges for them, so i can just do them in my room. Also when you have last-minute stuff it's awesome.

I got a $120 one.... Lexmark P4350, it works like a charm. It is very small, can print/copy/scan, and thats about all I would need it for.

Get a laser printer then. The one I have reccomends that I replace the cartridge after 18,000 pages. I'm not majoring in anything that would concievably require presentations with flashy colours so I have no need for an inkjet. By the way, inkjets are set up so you run out of ink fast, that's where all the profits come from, ink. The printer itself is sold at a lost.

I got one free with my laptop- prints, copies, and scans. Honestly, I would recommend having at least one between you and your roommate. That way if you need something printed in a pinch (like if you're up all night writing a paper type deal), you can just print it off from your dorm. You can get them really cheap- $40 or less normally.

Procrastination is synonymous with college. When you're finishing that final paper 10 minutes before it's due (YES it will happen some time), you might need that printer in your room. I'd pay 40 bucks just to prevent turning a final paper in late.

geta $25 printer and throw it away when school finish's, keep the cartridges and buy a new 1 when u get back. for the high quality printing go to the library or something.

Is there some public printer you can use at your school? I didn't get one because there was one upstairs I could use for free and princt remotely from my computer.

Just got a great deal on a Canon printer/copier/scanner when I bought my macbook pro at Apple---there was a $100 rebate on the printer.

Don't get a Dell printer. Ink cartridges can only be purchase through Dell and they're steeply priced.

I would definitely opt for a printer, just out of convenience (unless you're positive your dorm/living arrangements are secured with an always available comp and printer).

get a printer and then get an ink system

<a href="http://www.echostore.com/continuous-ink-supply-system-r200-r300.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.echostore.com/continuous-ink-supply-system-r200-r300.html</a></p>

Yes get a printer. And if you do try to make sure it's at least a 3 in 1 print (Copy/Scan/Print). You may also look for a 4 in 1 printer that gives you the extra option to fax (although you could probably do this so long as you have a scanner and a faxing program on your computer).

Definitely get a printer. It is THE difference between a last-minute project turned in on time or not. You can't always count on the first computer lab you go to being open. I found that a three-in-one wasn't really necessary, because you won't be scanning things very often. If you do need to scan, then you can use the school's computers. I bought a $25 HP one last year and it worked incredibly well all year long and I plan on using it again this year. So don't think you have to go expensive. Finally, if you're going to have a roommate, see if he already has a printer or not. If he does, ask if you can share it and you pay for the next ink cartridge when it runs out. If he doesn't, then you buy the printer and offer to share it. That's what I did with my roomie and it worked great!
