I just wrote the SAT yesterday, second time taking it, and I was under the impression that score choice allowed you to pick and combine subscores (math, critical reading, writing) from different test dates. Apparently you can only choose the entire score from a specific date to send.
So, what happened was on the first SAT I got an 800 critical reading but bombed math and writing, so on my second SAT I focused all my energy on the Math and Writing sections, and did not even try on the Critical Reading sections. Now my second SAT score is going to suck because I will get like a 200 CR.

Is there anyway to only send my superscores to colleges?? Because my overall score for the second SAT is going to be embarrassingly poor, due to the CR section, and my first SAT wasn't that great either...

Please Help!

Please, someone, I only have so many days to cancel my scores…

I mean, the some colleges still get to see how you did on the SAT tests that you don’t send, but they say they are going to “consider” your highest scores from different test dates.

However, if you a really bad grade in one section, and it is obvious to the admission officers that you just flunked it because you didn’t care about it, it probably won’t look good.

But If you think you are going to get above a 650 or so, because you got 800 on your first try, i myself wouldn’t cancel it if you did fine on Writing and Math

I definitely did not get a 650 on the CR this time around, no joke I left an entire section blank because I was so sure that score choice allowed me to combine subscores. I am so stupid :(

Oh, dear, I hear how distraught you are!

If you were under the mistaken impression that you could pick and choose the SAT Reasoning (or SAT I) sections to send to colleges AFTER you took the test, then you have NOT yet asked College Board to send the Mar 10 scores to anyone, correct?

If that’s the case, it may be okay to wait and see how you did on those sections (M and W) that you put a lot of effort into this round. You must be curious!

Some colleges want you to send ALL the scores from every time you take the SAT, but MOST colleges allow you to use score choice (ie, choose which SAT test dates you want to send. (But then, as you so sadly learned you must send them M + R + W for that date. Its only the SAT IIs, Subject Tests that you can pick and choose which subjects to send or not send to any one school…) Look at the list on the College Board website to see what the colleges you will likely apply to require. Scores from ALL sittings, or just what you want to send? That might help you decide.

You also might want to repost this in the Parents Forum to see if other parents have been through this and have better advice. I just was on the SAT Forum because my kid took the Mar 10 SAT along with you, and wanted to see what students thought about how hard it was. I have never visited this Forum before.

Also, maybe repost on the College Admissions Forum. Some college admissions deans weigh in on questions there, and could help you out.

Good luck to you. You’ll get through this, I’m sure. It’s only March, not October 2012!

Thank you so much Jane! That was exactly what I needed to know, and your correct, I’m still curious about how I did, so I’ll make sure my colleges allow score choice and then I can “hide” my score if need be. Thank you again and I will try reposting this for further information!
