Right now, I have an ACT composite of 34. However, I am being forced by my school to take the June SAT test (no idea), and I have not done any prep for it. Should I cancel my scores right after taking the test, or should I wait for them? Is there a strong score correlation between ACT and the new SAT?
ACT and SAT tests play to different strengths, so no, you can’t necessarily expect to do equally well on both.
You are mandated to take the test, but are you also required to select universities to which the scores will be sent? If not, I don’t think you have to report them on applications. However, I’m not positive, so check on that before you finalize your SAT information.
I’m pretty sure, but this depends on the state you’re in, you’ve already satisfied the State Mandated Standardized Test requirement with your ACT. So you don’t need to take the SAT, if you don’t want to. All you need to do is tell your HS that you took the ACT.
But make sure you ask your HS to make sure. Every state is different.
Not so much nowadays. The new SAT is incredibly similar to the ACT in both structure and method.
@NerdMom88 Yes, unfortunately, I have to report all testing scores to some of the colleges that I am applying to.
@marvin100 True; however, I am scared that I can’t delete these scores once I receive them
States mandate SAT now? There has to be a different policy regarding state SATs and regular administrations…
My daughters’ old high school mandated that everyone take the ACT during their junior year, whether they had already done SAT or not… I think it’s up to the school.
@GMKoon @NerdMom88 Technically, I wasn’t mandated to take the SAT like the ACT in other states. However, my school had a session where every junior must register for SAT and then take it on the future date.
The SAT and ACT are now really similar for the English/Writing and Math sections. Practice a little for critical reading and you’ll do fine I promise. You don’t have to prepare too much for the SAT with an ACT like that, and you still have a whole month until the testing date. Buy a prep book, practice, and you’ll definitely do well. At this point, you just need to get used to the different format of CR questions as well as the different pacing, but with your current ACT score you’ve already shown you have the skills to do well enough
@oPhilippos @NerdMom88 @GMKoon @marvin100 Thank you for your responses. I took the SAT this Saturday, and I will be canceling my scores for sure. Not to sound like a whiner – however, I stood in the cold/rain for nearly an hour while waiting in line, and my proctor did not allow me to use my stopwatch (even when I showed her the list of “What to Bring” on my ticket).
Other than that, I am considering to take the next SAT, because the format is to my advantage (way more time). Best of luck to you, your student, or your child who is still testing!
