Should I consider Miami?

Hello all,
I was recently admitted to Miami EA. I applied to farmer school of business and indicated intrest in the honors program. I did not recieve invitations to either farmer or the honors program (32 ACT, 3.9 GPA). While I understand that there were likely many applicants with higher stats than me, I was wondering if I should still consider going to Miami as opposed to Ohio State, where I have also been admitted. I hope to recieve merit scholarships but I know that I’m certainly not guaranteed any money.

OSU and MU are different schools both in size and feel. MU has a well-developed alumni network and is very supportive of their students.

I agree that the schools are different but Farmers has an excellent alumni base in the Midwest. You will get a great education both places and shouldn’t have a hard time getting into Farmers with a 32 ACT. Just a very different vibe on campus.

Thanks for the responses! I like the feel of Miamis campus more than OSU’s. I applied for a business major but in my acceptance letter I didn’t get an invite to FSB. Is it possible to transfer into the business school after a semester or a year? Also should I worry about not getting jnro honors? I heard Miami’s honors program is weirdly selective.

Are you sure that you picked a major in the business school? I have heard of people picking something like Econ and not realizing that they picked the one in the Arts and Sciences school. From what people have posted as far as stats of FSB admitted students, it’s surprising that you didn’t get into FSB with a 32 and a 3.9. Maybe call and ask?

@axvd97 Are you talking about the acceptance letter you got in the mail or the one on the applicant portal? My son’s acceptance packet came in the mail today and the letter had no mention of honors or FSB admittance, but both were included in the letter on the applicant portal. Make sure you check there if you haven’t already.

@lisa6191 neither my packet that came by snail mail nor the letter on the applicant page had any mention of honors or FSB. I definitely understand if I didn’t make it in to either though, but I will call tomorrow just to make sure I didn’t accidentally select a major outside of FSB. Congrats to your son!

@axvd97 I do not know what the rules are about transferring to the business school. I do agree the MU campus is wonderful.

I would be very surprised if you were not accepted to Farmer with your stats. Honors, however, will not be a given. Give admissions a call. Good luck!
