Should I consider the ivies (kinda a chance thread)?

Long post, please don't feel overwhelmed :/

My grades/classes/test scores are pretty much standard of the applicant (or slightly lacking thereof) and I need extra curriculars to stand out. I do have extra curriculars, but I'm not involved in any super-academic club or any state/national academic competition. Should I bother to apply to HYP and the other ivies? I will be applying to American, Stanford, USC, and UCs. I'm going into poli sci, so I think UCB will be my best shot (if I get in) because it is ranked in the top 5 nationally. My stuff seems like a lot, but it's mostly details. Here is my profile:

GPA
*UW 3.87
*W 4.40

UC GPA
*4.19 (limited to 8 semesters of the extra point)

Definitely taking again in October - I forgot about guessing penalty because it was in the midst of the AP Exam weeks. I got 2050 on a practice, so I will def. score higher.

SAT II
*Math II in June

*Chemistry " "
*Spanish in October

Anything else you want to know? HAHA. Thanks for reading and please tell me which schools I should dedicate myself to and predict my chances :) <3

You might as well try because you don’t have an absolute lack of chance, but your GPA and SATs are pretty low for those schools.

The GPA is 3.87 UW and 4.40 W (3 Bs in all of HS) and the SAT will be higher. If the SAT goes up to 2100+, what do you think?

How good are you at graphic design? Because if you are SUPER good they might accept you despite low scores

@woeshie I’ve been doing it for 5 years, and I won an international logo design contest (where professional designers from India and Switzerland competed), so that should show how good I am, hopefully  My family/relatives ask me to design things and do photography for them and I definitely plan on continuing graphic design on the side in college (probably not when I’m working in government though haha - they just doesn’t go together). I work with designing the school website also. I plan to continue to make t-shirts and flyers, etc. for college clubs, other college organizations. I won’t be majoring in graphic design, though, because I want to change the world, and sitting in front of a computer on Photoshop doesn’t change the world (on it’s own, that is).

Btw, cr+m=1300  for now!!

Dude totally send those supplements in! You’re like the Steve Jobs of graphic design, but don’t drop out xD

Do apply
You are a URM (really sorry to use this word) but it could definitely give you an advantage!
Manage to shine in your essays and interviews!
If your portfolio is great you will pull it off!
-Fellow Graphics designer and 3d animation enthusiast from Bangladesh

She is not a URM.
But good luck though, I’ve never heard of a girl who graphic designs professionally.

@danishpastry Yes! That’s what I like to hear! :D

btw, I think Darth meant are not a URM

If you have low income try matching through Questbridge.

I’m considering Questbridge-my current SAT score is on board with their finalist average. Thanks!

bump 10char

You dont really have a shot at any Ivy unless via questbridge and there’s nothing stellar enough about you to win that, unless you can really bring your scores up

SO how would my chances be if I had a higher SAT score…say 2100 or even 2290 OR MAYBE even 2350?

Your grades are average or slightly less, your SAT is definitely below average, and your EC’s are actually average. You don’t have good chances, but if you really want to go to an Ivy you could apply.

altogether, i have to say that you have a pretty good chance, although not a solid chance with your tests/gpa (sorry, i don’t know if that really makes sense…).

the hooks: 1st gen college and low income will definitely get noticed.

the sat score needs to go up, but you seem to already know that, so i’ll leave that to be.

other than that, i think that your classes at the community college definitely show initiative and that those are just more pluses onto your application.

lastly, i think you should definitely showcase your graphic design skills, especially if you’re good enough to win an international competition haha.

just raise those standardized test scores, and i think you’ve got a solid shot at most of your colleges!

Thanks for the input, guys!

Any way I could expand on a certain EC to make it more unique or above average?
