I want to go to med school after college. I definitely know that I am going to minor in Spanish. But I am worried that I might not do well on the MCAT and not be able to get into Medical school. I am very interested in Sociology BUT, if I do not get into Med school, I want to be able to have a degree that will still allow me to gain a decent salary ($60-70,000+). I wouldn't mind being a sociology professor, but I would have to get a PhD. And after studying so hard for the MCAT and not doing well, I'm not going to feel like going for my PhD. So for that reason, I was thinking about majoring in Bio so that I can have a science degree and just go right out into a career. I wanted to major in Sociology though, because I want to distinguish myself from all the other Med school applicants instead of being the typical Bio/Chem major. So then I thought of double majoring in Cellular Bio/Genetics & Sociology with a minor in Spanish. But that obviously sounds like a lot and will make my work load unbearable because not only will I have those majors and minor, I will have to be taking my Pre-requisites for med school as well. PLEASE HELP! I don't know what to do??

if you want to go to med school, be a bio major. there are plenty of careers in bio also and if you dont get accepted u could always get ur masters and try again.

Bad news. People with a BS in Bio are a dime a dozen, and usually end up with menial lab jobs if they can find science related work at all. The union card for science work is a PhD.

Also if a career in medicine is what you really want, there are plenty of jobs involving direct or indirect patient care that don’t require an M.D., as well as an even larger number involved in the health care field in general. When you say that if you don’t get into med school you’re ready to turn your back and go off to something else, it doesn’t sound (to me at least) as if you’ve given medicine sufficient thought, or else your reasons for being a doctor are superficial.
