Currently, I am very stressed out about the incoming junior year with the number of rigorous classes that I am taking this year. I don’t know if I want to drop any of them, because I think the classes I am taking this year are fundamental and important for the years to come. This is my current schedule:
AP Calculus AB (dropped to BC to hopefully lessen course load, heard it’s pretty easy)
AP Language and Composition (very much a humanities person and am interested in taking a writing course like this)
AP Microeconomics + AP Macroeconomics (was the most interesting AP social studies at my school)
AP Seminar (I’m into researching and writing papers, so this class was interesting)
Spanish 4 Honors (somewhat worried, not sure if I want to drop to on-level)
Human Anatomy Honors (I’m going into this class unsure of its reputation; not as strong with sciences so opted out of AP)
What is your input? Also, are any of these classes particularly difficult or do they tend to lean on the easier side of the AP spectrum. I understand that I’ll have to put in a lot of work to succeed, but I’m not sure if I am stressing myself out with this current schedule as it is paired with other sports and extracurricular activities. Thank you in advance for the advice
I was also worried about taking a lot of AP classes my junior year, but I soon realized that it’s not necessarily as overwhelming as I believed it was going to be. Sure, I had more hours of homework and studying, but it was doable(I also took 4 APs my junior year). It depends on what type of person you are, but personally I think that schedule is perfectly fine if you have good time management.
Calc AB is the hardest class in my school, but it is good to challenge yourself. Also, if you’re more of a humanities person, than you may be better off taking more humanities rather than micro and human anatomy.
AP Lang is easily the hardest AP at my school but it differs greatly by school. For example APES(environmental sciene) is hard at some schools but is a JOKE at my school. Do some homework on your classes and ask around about their difficulty. What I have heard from others is normally pretty accurate. I do believe that your schedule is definitely doable with hard work and commitment, and even if you get a couple of B’s(hopefully no C’s) it will look good that you challenged yourself. You got this!
I thought that Calc BC was easy. Your courseload isn’t too challenging. I think Spanish IV will be fine, but I’ve heard AP Lang is a beast. Most of my friends took it this past year and I’m taking it this year and I’m kind of nervous. Also where are your sciences? Make sure you’ve covered Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Human Anatomy is often a difficult, memorization driven class. Of course a lot depends on the teacher, the curriculum etc. so talk to your guidance counselor to try and determine if it is the best choice for you. And agree that you should have Bio, Chem, and Physics.
The only class I have reservations about considering what you said is Anatomy Honors.
have you taken bio, chem, physics (even if on-level)? Having all three is the most important.
is it a hard class at your school? It’s usually taken by future nursing /healrh science majors, sometimes by premeds, so the students will all be gunning xor A’s and if you’re not into science it may backfire.
APES tends to be easy and fascinating if you’ve had all three of bio chem phys.
IMO this is an ok schedule- certainly rigorous, but doable if you’re dedicated and manage your time well. I’m a rising senior and am taking 6 full time classes, 2 honors and 4 APs, in addition to an independent seminar. Just manage your time well and ask for help if you need it.
