Should I Drop Pre-Calculus?

Hello. High school senior here. I have Pre-Calculus this year and I am thinking of dropping it. Already passed Algebra I and II as well as Geometry. I have AP Chemistry, Psychology, and Economics this year and really feel as if Pre-Calc will only weigh me down. If I want to major in Biology/Biochemistry (AP Biology already done), will I be alright if I drop the class?

For a STEM major you need four full years of math and to get through your entire math sequence. If you need to drop a class, get rid of psych or econ.

Also as a possible Biology/Biochemistry major, you will probably need to take at least 1 Calculus course as a major requirement in College. Having exposure to some Calculus in HS will make the College level Calculus/Math courses much easier.

If you do not complete precalculus in high school, you may have to take it as a remedial course in college before taking calculus that is likely to be required for a biology major.

Is it too late too drop it? Can you graduate high school with just 3 years of math? I could be wrong but I think it might not look good on college applications for a STEM major not to have math your senior year at your level of math. If your in honors can you drop down to college prep? Before dropping at the very least talk to your guidance counselor and call a few college admissions and see what they think.

You should take Precalc in HS. Don’t drop it.
