I am a male, Hispanic, out of state from New England. I would love nothing more to get into William and Mary, which is extremely improbable.

What exactly are the chances for out of state residents. Also, would me being from New England and being Hispanic help me out a little bit. I probably do not have the scores to get in out of state, but I still want to go(or at least try). I am not asking for a chances thread, but is the likely hood of me getting in as an out of stater almost the same getting into an Ivy league school or top school, or will it be a lot easier?

Your chances for getting in W&M are decent since you're Hispanic and male. Coming from the New England states won't help you, since there are many from there here.

OOS acceptance rates avg at about 20% or so, but the all male acceptance rate is over 40% and for females, it is 25-26%. If your GPA and SAT's are good, then you'll have a good shot I guess.

I guess it's easier to get into W&M oos than to the Ivies, but not that much.

From my observations, being hispanic and out of state is just like being white and instate. You still need competitive scores, but you won't need to be no. 1 in your class and have 1450 SATs

In state admissions vary greatly too here from county to county. The competition tends to be toughest in Fairfax County in the northern area next to Washington, DC, as well as the Charlottesville area, possibly because the high performers at the area schools want to go to a school away from home since they're home to UVA. Competition is rather lax in the southwestern portion of the state because few applicants apply.

Good to hear! I think that being male and Hispanic will be favorable factors, though as jags said above, you'll still need strong stats. Do you like the school enough to go ED? (Recommended only if you know you can handle it financially.) Also recommended: do the optional submission, and make it say as much about you as possible.

Just remember, you'll never know what can happen if you aren't willing to take the risk. W&M offers interviews during the summer months before your senior year, if you can take advantage of that, I would. You should be able to start signing up for the interviews in early May.

Having just gone through this process with my daughter, I think W&M admissions does a good job at looking at the whole person, not just their numbers.

Ya, I think I'm going to try and raise my SAT scores and apply.
The sad thing is, that even if I for some miracle get in, I probably won't be able to afford it.

Oh, well, I'll worry about that if I get there.
