Hey guys, thanks for reading this, i’m desperate for some good advice.
I’m currently a grade 12 student from India studying Cambridge A levels. I’m currently taking Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computing and Biology as A levels and expecting As in all of them, and maybe an A* in computing.

I was initially aiming only for NUS, but my vice principal suggested i look at ivy league universities. The problem is, i took my sat for the first time in November, but i couldn’t finish the last 3 sections because of medical reasons, and i got a score of 1970.
I’m applying to Brown for environmental science.

I have Tons of community outreach, a couple of medals in athletics, A prize from a inter school debate, and some other stuff. I’m retaking my SAT in jan, but that’s AFTER the deadline. I got 740 in my SAT biology and 690 in maths 2.
i also have an internship, i’ve rescued and taken care of several animals including baby bats, puppies, kittens, etc - does this help at all? i have a black belt in karate. I’ve achieved high distinction in macmillan’s IAIS which i took last year, and have gotten overall outstanding in another national diagnostic test - i got 100 percentile in 10th grade in science in this particular test. I’ve also been a boy scout who got to third level, in india it’s called the thritiya sopan. i have a medal in abacus from middle school, not sure if it counts.

Reading 660-750
Writing : 670-770
Math 680-770

So, realistically, you should be aiming to be in the middle 50% for all the subjects to be ‘competitive’, but obviously, SAT Is are just one component of the application - I mean, a few years ago, an Asian with a 1790 got into Brown WITHOUT any hooks, but had amazing essays.

My breakdown is 670 in critical reading, 700 in math and 600 in writing. It’s a good thing i;m taking an improvement test, lol. But what about ECs? I’m fairly confident about having good essays.

I think it’s worth a shot, if you take that SAT again and send in the updated scores with an explanation. What score do you realistically think you’ll have the second time?

Your CR and Math are fine. I would re-take to get the writing to at least a 680,690 or 700+, and if possible, make at least one of the three scores go towards the 75th percentile. So something like 780 Math, 670 Reading, 700 Writing.

And as for ECs, they are definitely VERY IMPORTANT. You get so many people with in-range test scores, that to distinguish yourself, ECs will play a significant roles (as seen through list, essays). ECs are mostly about dedication, leadership and impact, more so than quantity.
