My U-M GPA is terribly low, I mean really low. I am an upcoming Junior and my Sophmore GPA is 3.0 in 5 Honors classes and Latin II.

I am taking 4 AP's and I am going to work so hard to get straight A's (4.0) in my 4 AP Classes (Chem, Comp, US, Calc AB)

If I do get these straight A's I'll be damn close to 5% of my Class of (460+)

My projected SAT scores based PSAT are 700-720 on all three. I haven't taken them yet but I have studied for them and my goal is to get 750 on math, 730-740 on CR and Writing.

My EC's are the strong part of my Application. I won't type them for your sake, but if it thats going to be the deciding factor then I'll post them up if someone posts and asks.

U-M is my dream school and I am OOS (from PA) and I was just wondering even with a 3.5 U-M GPA, will U-M not care even if it is an upward trend?

No harm in trying:). I know people who've got in with those stats. (International Students). Although they did have excellent recommendations , stellar essays and an upward trend taking the most rigourous curriculum.

I am taking the most rigourous curriculum offered and I might as well tell you my EC's.

-Varsity Indoor and Outdoor Track (Letter) (9th)
-Marching Band (10th, 11th, 12th) (30 hours a week commitment from Aug-Nov)
-Indoor Drumline (10th, 12th) (25 hours a week from Nov-late May)
-I am a soon-to-be Eagle Scout which includes a ridiculous amount of community service
-My father is extremely active in the Indian community and does a lot of fund raisers with various organizations and politically he is known because of this and I tag along with him. So some organizations that I help with are:
- Ekal Vidayala (Makes schools in tribal villages for $365 [nonprofit]) I am leading a small fundraiser that is projected to raise $3000+. Most of these fundraisers bring in over $100,000 but I am doing a smaller scale one.
- Leader in my Temple Youth Group
- Representing youth organizations in different religous conferences

-FBLA member (11th, 12th)
-Key Club - Leadership Role (11th, 12th)
-Student Council - Leadership Role (Running for class president) (11th 12th)
-JV Tennis (9th, 11th)
-NYLF
-This year I am going to start a major fund raising event to help raise awarness about the genocide in Darfur. I am hoping to raise around $1000
-I started a fundraiser earlier in my freshman year for the Tsunami Recovery raising $2000.
-Varsity Tennis (12th Tenative)

And also I play a lot of music, a lot of it. I am not sure if this helps at all, but I mean I record my own music and make Electronica using synthesizers along with my own home studio which I started up. I play the Saxophone, Sitar, Tabla, Guitar, Drums, and I can get by on basic theory on Piano.

SecondNature, trying is always good because you never know with these things. I know many people say that UM mostly just looks at your stats such as GPA and SAT/ACT, but I think with great essays that are really unique, some outstanding ECs (u have some), and good recommendations one always has a chance ( long as your marks are reasonable eg. not too many Cs). So I think if you raise your marks up like you said you were trying to and create a complete application (good ECs, unique essays, etc..) you have a good chance.

Would applying for LSA increase my chances? For example if I were to Double major in Computer Science and Music Technology? BTW I calculated my non UM GPA which is 3.57 if that changes anything at all and I will have the following AP's before I graduate: Chem, Calc AB, Calc BC, Music Theory, US History, US Gov, Econ, Physics B, English Lang, and Lit. Hopefully with 4+ in all.
