Should I get a travel agent?

I feel like I’m growing tired of being the planner/researcher for the big trips and can totally see the appeal of using a good travel agent. My H planned our last trip and it was great to just be able to show up. Our upcoming trip is a family effort with our D spearheading the planning. I’m happy to hand over the reins!

Yes, I usually really enjoy planning trips - it is fun. But like I said, I got burnt out from doing all the work in 2020 and then having to cancel it all. The good thing is I do know where we want to go and what we want to see, so we can be specific with the travel agent. All my previous research won’t go to waste.

We just talked to the local travel agent people recommended to us. She asked lots of good questions and seemed knowledgeable about Europe. She’s going to put together some rough plans and we can still back out if we’re not satisfied.

You do get the insurance, but you can’t use your Ultimate Rewards points for free hotels or airline tickets w/o booking through the Chase Ultimate Rewards site although I guess maybe you could call them. We use that card for almost everything. I had enough points for two free tickets to Ireland this fall, plus 4 or 5 free nights at hotels this past year (not in Ireland, although might’ve worked there too). We just accumulate them and then when we are ready for a getaway or need to go somewhere we usually have enough points to help out if not outright pay for the hotels and/or tickets. It was great when D22 and I were doing college tours. I’d just book a hotel using points. I don’t worry about individual hotel brand points anymore.

You can also use the points for restaurants and Amazon and Apple stuff, cruises, and other experiences. It’s worth digging through the website.
