I just got back my SAT II Writing scores, and I got a 780. This could sound kind of retarded, b/c I am pretty happy w/ my scores, but I feel that I did better than that. That test day was MY day for testing.

I got a 9 on my essay, and i missed only 4 multiple choice. Isn't that odd? According to regular scales (Sparksnotes in this case), I should have a 730, but according to the test report, I got a 780. BUT I could've sworn I did pretty well on my essay (I brought up all this Da Vinci dissection crap, and Michelangelo, etc., etc.). Also, on some free essay grading thing Princeton Review was doing, a comparatively worse essay I turned in got me a 10.

I was wondering if I should get my test hand-scored (regraded) by College Board in case there was some mistake on my essay grading. I'm just scared that they might end up LOWERING my test grade. Is that possible?! I dont want to feel like I was cheated out of a possible 790 or 800. But I dont want to end up w/ a 730! To all those who took the Nov. Writing test, does my score sound right to you (can you get a 780 w/ a 9 on essay and 4 missed multichoice?) PLZ GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS (helpful ones hopefully).

Yeah, the graders are a little weird. The first time, I got an 11 on the essay, and well, frankly, it was terrible.

The second time, I only got a 9, and I thought this essay was muuuuuch better. It was about music, though. Maybe it was over their heads or something.

agreed. I got a 780 as well. I got an 11 on my essay when I thought it was the worst piece of BS I had ever written. so yeah, the writers grade the essays pretty arbitrarily. anyways, your score is solid, no need to waste any money on hand scoring.

I dont want to "get greedy," but can it hurt to get it regraded? Whats the harm in possibly (even though it may be a slightly slim possibility) getting a boost of a couple of points? Anyone know if your score can go down? Or do you think Im safe with a baseline of 780, and it wont go down any lower than that at least? Would anyone honestly not want to change out a 780 for a possible 790 or 800 just b/c he or she didn't want to look greedy? Comon.
Thanks,
THE Liberal

Waste of money, waste of time. Sounds like youre thinking about doing it so that you can shout from the rooftops that you got an 800 or something or competing with a friend. Quit it. It isnt going to make a difference in college admission. This isnt opinion. This is just a case of making a sensible decision which I have laid out for you.

How much does it cost to regrade it? 25 bucks? Go buy a friggin computer game or something. Dont waste it on something of no consequence. Rich has nothing to do with it.
