I currently struggling with the decision whether to get an internship or the study abroad program in Cambridge this summer. I am a junior-transfer student major in economics. Because I am a transfer, this first summer at Cal is the only summer I can spend on either doing an EAP program which I have always wanted to do or an internship which will be helpful to my future career. So it's really a tough situation, I don;t know which one of the two options I should choose. I have always wanted to do an eap program to see some other different countries. But all my firends are doing interns this summer, so I am worried if I choose to do an eap program instead of an internship will put me into a disadvantage position in my later career path. So can anyone give some advices, that will be really helpful. Thanks a lot.

Cambridge!!!

You will benefit from an education in a country whose education system is completely different from that of the US.

It’s kinda off topic but you seem to have a lot of grammar mistakes considering you’re a Cal student… just my little opinion…

In this case, I would say internship. Normally I would go for the study abroad but you’re not really studying abroad in the Cambridge program. You’re going to summer school in Cambridge, and most of the students will be international students. Summer school is quick, and classes will take up most of your time so you won’t have much time to just go hang out with people. So you don’t really get the experience of immersing yourself into the culture. :(

If you can study abroad for a semester/year, totally go for it.

When weighing the pros and cons of your situation, I think you’ll get more out of the internship.

Yeah that was off topic. Lol jk I was going to comment on it too but i think it was just a spelling mistake in the title. So I let it go this time.

But you should definitely do cambridge! It sounds like your heart is leaning towards that from your diction, so do what’s best for you and what you will enjoy.

During my visit to the career center and when attending the job/internship fairs I was constantly told that getting experience is more important than what you studied - although personally, I think its a catch-22; how a psychology/philosophy can get relevant internships or work experience in business is beyond me. That said, I’d go for the internship (especially if it’s relevant to your career and if you already got accepted to it). You might have fun stories and whatnot to share with your interviewer, but in the end your lack of experience might harm you. Why dont you study abroad in the fall or spring.

If I study abroad in the fall or spring, I won’t be able to finish some of the core courses for my major, and I also don’t want the study aborad program affect my education in berkeley too much, that’s why I didn’t apply for the eap in the fall or spring.

I would take classes in the summer instead and then get like 2 out of the way, and 2 classes in different semesters (which would be the equivalent of one semester during the year). And then study abroad during fall/spring. I think you’d have a better experience with the culture in Cambridge and you get to study with other British students.

If you’re planning to go into a business-type career, a Junior internship would be immensely better than studying abroad.

If you have money, you could do both.

[Travel Study - London, United Kingdom | Berkeley Summer Sessions](http://summer.berkeley.edu/travelstudy/london)

Otherwise an internship would be better as far as future career goes.

Re ManbearPig:
This my first time hear about this program “Travel Study - London, United Kingdom | Berkeley Summer Sessions”, how much do you know about this program, are they worth to apply than the eap?

As someone who went to Cambridge, I’d suggest that you do the internship program. Taking a summer class at Cambridge won’t be the same as going to Cambridge as a Cambridge undergrad student, if you know what I mean. It’s just a summer program intended for international students.

Actually I’m pretty sure the travel in London program is cheaper than going to Cambridge. And you still have a month to do the application.

Basically you apply and will probably get in. They go through rounds of interviews and whatnot where you tell them what you’re looking for in an internship. Then the Berkeley program finds one that matches (at least most) of your preferences and you spend 10 (?) weeks in London interning and taking online courses. You can even double up and take an online course from the Berkeley campus (but you have to be on campus for the final).

It’s not study abroad because you don’t go to school exactly with British students, but you get to explore another culture more and get experience.

Dude that sounds wonderful. But my concern is will they for sure provides an intrnship for every student who participate ?

Noodle–if you get into a program they guarantee you an internship.

Thanks for posting those websites! Wow I wouldn’t have known about that!

So is this london internship program a good program, are there any comments or feedbacks I can check online from those who have attended it before?
