So just yesterday I got accepted to NYU - Tisch for the Film & TV major. It was a big surprise. According to Financial Aid reward, I got:
Tisch Arch Scholarship: $50,000 approx. (Not sure if its renewable)
Steven ad Alexandria Cohen Schlp: $16,000 approx. (Not sure if renewable)
Federal Aid: about $5000
Totals to about: $72k (w/o loans)
As you can see, assuming that my scholarships are renewable, NYU could be basically affordable. I still need info on these scholarships though. NYU is over 3 hrs. away from my home.
I also got accepted into UD, which is just as affordable for me, and it is only 30 min. from home. I am comfortable with UD as my sister goes there, and I have visited many times. Also, I have a lot of close friends who will be there with me.
NYU Film program seems like an amazing opportunity, plus UD doesn’t have a similar program. The thing is, I applied on a whim, not believing I’d even get in. I’m not even completely sure if film is absolutely what I want to do, as I don’t have any experience other than great interest and enjoyment in writing. I don’t believe I’d get the scholarships if I changed my major outside of Tisch. I also am very close with my family and community and feel reluctant to go far from my family. I have yet to visit the campus too, not sure if the city and disbursed campus is for me.
I’m sorry if my “dilemma” sounds petty, but I’m not really sure what to do. I was thinking maybe just try for NYU or Columbia for grad school when I know if entertainment is what I really want to pursue. But even then I run the risk of even getting in, or being able to afford it then. Any advice? (Again sorry if this all sounds overblown)
