A question often asked...

NYU has been my dream school for years and a few days ago I was accepted into Tisch for film. I got a $16,000 scholarship and $3,000 work study but even with that, the tuition is a bit too much for my family to afford. We are not poor but not are we rich, and at most we can shell out 24k/year for college. My parents are not willing to take on loans so whatever we do not receive in aid, we must pay ourselves.

I was accepted to several other schools, but the only affordable ones include state schools I'm not too fond of and perhaps Hofstra or Quinnipiac, who gave me pretty big scholarships too, but are still just a couple thousand above our limit. NYU is really the only school on my list that I very much like and of course it's got a great reputation and many connections. It's basically the number two film school in the country after USC, but it's so expensive! Some people say it's not worth it and maybe they're right.

There is a chance I could find some scholarships to bridge the gap but as of now, I have none and NYU is still going to cost me about 35k/year if I go! I don't want to graduate with loans up to my nose, especially because my chosen career does not guarantee a good job with substantial pay. It would be a gamble to accept the offer... I hope to appeal to NYU's finaid office but I hear they are stingy and if I'm lucky, they would just give me two thousand dollars more. I don't know what to do. If I go anywhere else, I am sure I will not like it and I will always wonder what could have happened if I went to NYU. I don't want to go to a college just because it's cheaper, but I also do doubt if NYU is worth all the cash and loans! Any advice?
