Hi CCers thanks for the help! So I was am an English Education major who is on a four year full ride scholarship at a public school. In order to graduate I would have to take four 18 hour semesters and two summers with full courseloads as well (I just knocked one out of the way). I spoke to an advisor and learned that I could graduate with an English degree at the end of next summer. I am currently considering switching.
I'm a little uncertain but my reasoning behind this are three fold: 1) I want to be a teacher, but from what I've heard English Ed degrees are just about as employable (overall) as English degrees. 2) I figured that there are a number of alternative certificiation programs available, which I would probably be a competitive candidate for. 3) Everyone in my major is miserable. As in "taking 6 years of full course loads to graduate, altough they have a full course load and great grades because education is a changing game" miserable.
My parents are fine with this, because they are amazing. However, the few friends I told don't seem to understand why I would graduate early if I have everything payed for. Honestly, my school is run by Greek Life, and of the 10 or so things I've interviewed for over the past two years I've been selected for few (I'm an R.A.) I figured I could do internships or volunteer work on my year off.
So my question is, what would you do? Any insight? Am I a fool for dropping a "practical" education endorsement? Or for leaving before my scholarship expires? Should I add a double major? Should I stick with Eng. Ed? This is a last minute decision so I just need advice!

I would rush into today’s job market for English education, particularly went you aren’t paying anything to be at college. Why not earn a second major? Oh, and if you want to be a teacher English Ed. will make the path far easier than just English.
