I took the ACT with essay in June of this year as an alternative to the SAT with essay. I scored a 1560 on my school day SAT and figured I would need one of the two tests with the essay component to apply to the schools I wanted. I decided on the ACT so that I could also take SAT subject tests in the same week (June 2nd). I took the ACT with essay on June 9th, and was told that multiple choice scores would not be released for at least two weeks, while essay scores would take and additional three to five weeks after that. I received both my multiple choice and essay scores exactly two weeks after the test, on June 23rd. I received a 34 on the multiple choice, but my essay score was an 8. I felt that score was oddly low. It is certainly a fine score, and not too shabby for my first attempt, but I felt it was odd that I received my essay score extremely early with scores that I found peculiar. When I took the test, I felt that I had done poorly on the multiple choice, but was extremely confident in my essay. When the scores came back, I was both surprised by how early and how low they were. Should I have my essay rescored?
I feel that my essay scores were incorrect for these reasons:
-The scores were released significantly earlier than they were supposed to
-Despite my particular emphasis on essay preparation while studying for the ACT, I received an 8
-The scores were all 8’s in every domain, and it seems odd that they were all uniformly mediocre (I’m certain I made no syntax or grammatical errors and used appropriately complex language, so I definitely expected a better score in that domain)
-I felt extremely confident about my writing after leaving the exam.
I suppose what I am wondering is if it seems odd that my scores, which were uniform 8’s, were released much earlier than normal and were much lower than expected. Odd enough to warrant a rescore?
