Hey all! After taking the Math II and Bio M subject tests earlier this month, I have received my scores and am shocked beyond belief. I prepared for about a month for both tests and I did A LOT better on the practice tests (around low 700s for Math II using Barrons and about the same for Bio M using PR). I logged into my CB account this morning and well, it showed that I scored below the 40th percentile for math and below the 50th percentile for bio. I don’t want to say my real scores lol because this is just too much rn like ugh. I expected and anticipated a much higher score. So what do y’all say? To rescore or not to rescore? Yes, I am aware of the $55 fee for rescoring and I’ll have to admit it is rather craycray
No, and those scores are fine, the norms for subject tests are drawn from a skewed population since most students taking them are high functioning students who need subject tests.
You should definitely ask for a re-score. My daughter is in a similar situation. She consistently scored 740+ on all the Physics practice exams, yet got a 640 on the Physics subject test. She was actually expecting an 800 as she thought this test was a bit easier than the practice ones, but a 640 means she got more than half of the questions wrong. I did some research and found that up to 1/3 of the people who request hand scoring are successful in getting extra points.
In one case, the person got another person’s score! There were also a lot of cases where people bubbled in the wrong test - for example Bio M instead of BIO E.
I also came across this interesting article that that explains how scores can get messed up: http://www.samjackson.org/college/2006/08/08/i-got-51-problems-but-a-2-pencil-aint-one/
We sent in for a re-score and are keeping our fingers crossed.
