So I am currently having a difficult time trying to decipher whether or not I should attempt at transferring to Wharton internally. Right now, I am interested in CAS Economics and currently fulfill the prerequisite requirements to apply to Wharton as a rising sophomore. I came into Penn wanting to study Political Science but Economics has interested me even more. I understand the difference between CAS Economics and Wharton but I’m still stumped. Any advice would be really appreciated.
I am admitted to CAS. What is the prerequisite requirement to transfer to Wharton? Are there many students applying for the transfer? thanks.
How about the PPE major?
@telegogo It depends on the time period you wish to internally transfer. For rising Sophomores, you need to have completed ECON 001, ECON 002, and MATH 104 . There is more information in this link: https://undergrad-inside.wharton.upenn.edu/internal-transfer/.
In terms of whether or not there are many students applying for the transfer, I do not know but it is definitely difficult to be able to transfer. I have been thinking about transferring because my interests have changed throughout my freshman year.
I’m not sure what the question is, but you should probably define what you mean by your interests have changed. Do you mean your post-college plans have changed in a way that having business background would benefit you more than having a humanities background?
@aoeuidhtns Well whether if I am in the College majoring in Economics or I am able to move to Wharton, getting an MBA would be my ideal next goal. So in terms of what would benefit me more hasn’t really been a salient issue.
By interests, I mean that I have become more interested in Economics than I am in Political Science. I want to continue and explore the subject even more. Now, I understand the differences between Economics in the College and Wharton but I have been wondering if I should attempt at an internal transfer to a school that will, I think, better fit me for my new interests. I never expected this situation would come up coming into Penn thinking I was going to study Political Science.
I think it would be in your benefit to be clearer with what you mean when you say you’re “more interested in Economics.” The BS in Economics from Wharton has almost nothing to do with Econ — it’s really more like a BBA degree.
If you wanted to do an internal transfer, you’d need to be more specific in saying something like, “I’m more interested in Finance” or “Management” etc.

@aoeuidhtns I understand the difference between the two and I just mentioned that I’ve become more interested in Economics just to explain that exploring courses helped me find new opportunities. Well in my essay, I would of course be more specific. In particular, I have grown interest in Finance or Business Economics and Public Policy. It sort of melds the two fields I am quite interested in.
Gotcha, well if you want to pursue Finance or BEPP, then yeah for it.
