Should I join the Explore Living Learning Community (ExploreLLC) at Georgia Tech?

Hi everyone, I am a high school senior who is thinking about committing to Georgia Tech. My major is Biochemistry with a focus on Research. Because I am a science major, I automatically got an invitation to the ExploreLLC.

I’ve seen a lot of talk about the positives of joining LLCs, such as making friends, talking to professors once a month, and seeing familiar faces in more classes. I would like to know if there are any major downsides/negatives to joining an LLC.

Thanks!

This is a good question to take directly to that specific LLC. What do the current students feel about it. Has it given them extra support during the shut-down? Do they feel it will provide similar support in the fall if the university remains in online status?

As someone who’s joining one, I think that they are a great resource and fit me well. One downside, however, is that many (maybe all?) of them require you to take courses—some up to 3 hours every semester for freshman year. Also, if you have your heart set on the best dorms (Glenn and Towers), you won’t be able to live there; many LLCs are in pretty nice dorms though.

I ended up committing to the Explore LLC! The positives outweigh the negatives big-time, and if I don’t like it (and I’m sure I will), it only lasts for a year

i know a lot of people that joined LLC’s and loved it and I kind of regretted not applying to one, but it does seem like you can be a part of a close, tight-knit community. the only downside is cost and the fact that you need to take extra courses
