(I apologize for the title but I need an answer ASAP)

I sent my ACT score report directly to Umich (it was a 30 from the December test date) and specifically instructed my counselor not to send my previous scores, which are two 29's, a 26, and a 27. All of those have very bad math scores, and I am applying to the CoE. My only hope is that they may see that I was able to raise my math s ore 6 points between my 29 and my 30, and consider that.

My counselor sent all my old scores. ;_;

How much will the affect me? Please, I'm freakimg out about this now. Will Umich really care about the old scores?

First, I think they consider the best single sitting score. Second, didn’t you submit the official ACT report to UMich, not your counselor? Third, are you a in state student? If not, your chance for CoE is rather low as ACT 30 is below the 25% at 31.

I’m applying from Arkansas, where according to data there are only 11 people attending Umich. I’m not giving up hope, and geographical consideration is indeed a thing if I’m not mistaken.

If I don’t get in, I will likely try my best to transfer from the University of Arkansas.

I sent the 30 score from the ACT website, so yes, they hopefully have it. My counselor attached all other score reports to my transcript and sent them though I told her not to. Will this negatively affect my chances? Hopefully the score I sent directly earlier this month has arrived by now.

I think they would only consider the official score report. On the other hand, have you check if UMich is really affordable to you? No offense, but it is something many people overlook and regret later. It is very expensive for oos students and you are not likely to receive much merit aid.

Yes, I’m aware of the price. It’s not a deal breaker, but definitely something I’ve carefully considered. The University of Arkansas doesn’t even have Aerospace engineering. And thanks, I’m a bit less concerned about the score thing now.

A few questions:

How long affer you submit your app does it usually take for Umich to give you an ID so you can check the status of application materials (whether everything has arrived and such)

And do you know how much geographical consideration is uh, taken into consideration?

Considering the numbers of people who come from small places I don’t think they care about geographic diversity. Think about what portion of instate students are from Oakland or Washtenaw counties, think about what portion of domestic OOS students are from New York/New Jersey, think about what portion of international students are from China. I doubt they specifically favor those places, but they probably don’t consider the geography at all.

I’m not going to make a judgement on your chances, but I will say that if you’re depending on being from Arkansas helping you, you’re probably going to be disappointed when you see the results.

I’m not depending on that. I’ve got a 3.9 GPA as well, so I’m hoping. It is stated somewhere that they do care about geographic diversity however, though don’t know if I should believe everything they say I suppose.

If I’m not admitted, I’ll transfer from the U of A.

I believe they do care about geo-diversity. I’ve seen students from the non-NY/NJ, IL, CA, TX get some “merit $” under descriptions that imply the desire for the diversity.

Have you considered Purdue? It should be a better match for you. It is also ~15-20k cheaper per year.

For the UM ID, I think it took a few days to a week for my D to receive it. It would vary depending on how many applicants they need to process at a time and how frequent they download the common app. It may be faster now as my D submitted her app even before they started downloading the first batch of EA applications.

I have. I’m set on Michigan for several reasons, and I’m going to take my shot at it. If I don’t get in, I’ll stop at nothing to keep a high GPA at the U of A and transfer. Only issue I can see with that is the probability of much extra work, seeing as U of A doesn’t have Aerospace and I would have to start out in mechanical at the U of A.

But I’m still hopeful for admission this time.
