I went online today to submit my app. to Tufts. Little did I know, the Tufts Supp. was due THE FIRST, while the Common App. is due the 10th. I just thought all RD stuff was due the tenth. I e-mailed them (although I kind of regret it now...i should have just played dumb and hoped they would overlook it on their own) asking them what will happen to me. Do you think they'll reject me outright? I mean, it was only a day late and all of my teacher recs and scores are there, so my "file" should be made already, I would assume. But then again...tufts syndrome could make them think i didn't really want to apply and was using tufts as a safety! GPA: 3.4 UW, good ECs, very competitive private international school, good essays, 1500 SAT...shouldn't they see that they're definitely not a safety and more of a match?

I believe every year they have a statistic for the number of late applications received as a part of the "joke" stats of every class. So they do take them I think, so don't worry about it.

wait, what do you mean by "joke"?

The number of feet estimated in the stack of applications, # of twins accepted etc.

Pounds the apps would weigh if all printed out (more than 11 Jumbos - as in the elephant statue)... most common names... % valedictorians rejected (holding around 50% for several years running), %1600 SATers accepted (40%?), number of schools represented, number of apps arriving by FedEx.

Just thought y'all should know: ED I received some 2000 applications. The acceptance rate was around 25%. The remaining 14,000 applications are for about 650 spots (although, given that the yield is around 35%, this isn't as dire as it sounds). There will probably be over 16,000 applications filed this year. Median SAT was close to 1400.

In previous years, ED acceptance has hovered around 45%, while RD liberal arts, around 20%. Engin. is slightly higher (although the stats are better - self-selecting applicants).

To answer the question - send it in NOW and send in a letter explaining the mistake. I honestly don't think that it will be held against you. Alternatively, send it in now, and realize that they are still organizing applications and 3 days late won't be noticed. The person who opens the envelopes is a different creature than the admissions officers.

how many do you think will apply EDII?

...on the website, it says that 829 people applied EDI...was the 2,000 ED in general?

just take the plunge

"New Records Set For Early Decision

This week, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions
Lee Coffin announced Early Decision outcomes
for the Class of 2009. "Our ED profile continues
to be very strong, and Tufts set new admission
records in many areas," said Coffin.

Here are some highlights:

The Pool
* The 829 candidates are the second-highest
ED pool on record.
* The pool represents a 4.5% increase over
last year.
* ED applications to the School of Engineering
increased nearly 20%.

Academic Profile for Accepted ED Candidates
* The mean SAT is 1385, a new record.
* The mean SAT represents a 29-point increase
over last year and a 41-point jump in the last
two years.
* The SAT-M for engineers is 733, a new record
and a 29-point jump from '03.
* 73% rank in the top 10% of their class, up from
63% last year. 90% of future engineers
rank in the top 10%.

Demographics
* Accepted students come from 33 states, DC and
12 countries (including Costa Rica, Senegal and
South Africa). Five percent have an international
background, about the same as last year.

The Early Decision Round 1 class is 48% male.
In A&S, men represent 46% of the class, up
from 43% last year. Women represent 41%
of the Engineering acceptances versus
30% last year.

64% are from public high schools.

17% are students of color, up from 16% last year.

10% are Asian-American, up from 8.5% last year.

Financial Aid
* 44% of the ED acceptances are financial aid
candidates. This number is consistent with
previous classes.

Coffin added, "We consciously reduced the number of
ED acceptances this year to preserve spaces in the
first-year class for high-quality Regular Decision
applicants. At present we are running between 2-4
percent ahead of last year's applicant pool for Regular
Decision; if it holds it will produce another record."
