Should i mentione my previous waitlist from Hopkins?

I was waitlisted by Johns Hopkins for freshman admission. I am reapplying because the waitlist made me realize even more that Hopkins is good fit for my undergrad goals. Should i mention all this in the essay? JHU probably has my previous admission decision on record, but I really want to emphasize how much the waitlist motivated me to reapply and try again.

Also, can anyone guesstimate how many transfers JHU is looking to admit for Fall 2010?

And one more question. I know (now unfortunately) that JHU prefers applicants to send all of their SAT scores, ie. not make use of Score Choice. However, I've already sent in my SAT scores using SC. This report contains test scores that I received this academic year. If Hopkins has my previous score report still on file, would it hurt me to only send in my best 4-5 scores among all the tests I've taken?

Thanks in advance.

Call the admissions office and ask to speak with an admissions officer.

Ask him or her how selective they expect to be this year, and he or she will tell you how many applications they expect as well as approximately how many they plan to accept.

Also, just straight-up ask what they are looking for in transfer students, because whatever they say is infinitely more true than anything you will find on CollegeConfidential.

there actually is a jhu adcom on this forum, AdmissionsDaniel. I was directing my post to him. And since I just thought about this now (yes, i know it’s late), I can’t exactly call up/email the admissions office over the weekend and expect an answer in 24 hours.

(1) It is your choice what you want to write in your application and essay about your decision to apply as a transfer student to Hopkins. The transfer review committee will know of your previous wait list decision. If you feel it is significant to include that information than do so.

(2) No idea how many transfer students will be selected this year. Such decisions are not made until May as they are directly tied to how many freshmen enroll.

(3) The Admissions Committee does not know whether a student has used Score Choice or not. Using score choice will not hurt you, even if we have your previous scores.
