Since i got an award for Computer Science,
i am going to apply for Computer Science or Computer Engineering major.

my essay seems not bad, i made my english teacher to cry lol.
it is about how i made my progress while suffering from hardships such as language barrierand something..
two recommendations are from ESL teacher and Computer Science teacher.

Do i have above 25% chance of getting in?
if i say i wanna apply to NYU, they suggest me to apply to SUNY instead lol
if i have no chance at all...
i'd better stop writing my supples and begin to concentrate on SUNYs

thank you for leading my post~!

Are you applying to CAS?

Assuming you are, I think you have a good chance. Your EC’s are very strong and SAT 2’s are solid. SAT is probably middle of the road. I would say you have a 70% chance of getting LSP’d at the very least, and maybe a 40-50% chance of getting in. Best of luck!

Yes, i am applying to CAS.
and whats LSP’d?

LSP is the Liberal Studies Program at NYU. It’s essentially the middle ground between getting accepted and rejected. There are some threads on this forum where you can read about it, or just check out the NYU website. A friend of mine had similar stats that you do, but with a higher SAT and lower GPA, and he was put in LSP.

uhh…i would rather be rejected than be considered as LSP.
what would be the chance for me to get in NYU’s CAS school? or Stern?

stern is a high reach… alot of very qualified applicants were rejected ED

your average seems good… but then again its weighted and NYU looks at unweighted. your SAT 1’s are below average… a 2050 would be a safe score but your EC’s look great and the fact that you’ve only been here for 35 months helps a lot to.

okay then,
just forget about stern lol
what about CAS?

i really don’t understand how LSP is “the middle ground between getting rejected and accepted”. you are a matriculated NYU student in LSP.

^ nahh, i hear they make you live in a separate dorm all the way up in harlem, and the sternies make you carry their briefcases for them between bobst and tisch hall. plus i’m pretty sure i once saw a hobo outside of silver with a sign that read “help me…lsp '08 alum” :)

@ the OP - no need to be condescending. I had a 2150, 3.6ish uw and 9 ap’s, and was placed into liberal studies. you have lower scores than this, so it’s a possiblity. but students in CAS have gotten in with low SAT’s as well.

My advice for your application is steamline your EC’s and write a strong essay (get an English teacher to take a peek). Colleges don’t want to see a laundry list of 20 EC’s with no leadership roles or a list of 10 certificates. I would pick 3-5 EC’s to which you’ve dedicated the most time. If it’s possible, take a more active role this year so maybe you can get some kind of a position? I would focus on your Math/Science EC’s btw. Saying you went to Chinese Club on the 3rd Wednesday of every month means nothing. Listing too many EC’s also makes it look like none of them were time-consuming. It’s better to focus on 4 solid activities than spread yourself thin.

okay,i understand
so guys
can u tell me my chance of getting in CAS now?
