Currently, there are a LOT of classes I’d like to take with fairly hefty pre-reqs. I want to complete all of those pre-reqs before senior year. In my county we are required to take one year of gym and one year of art, subjects that I’m not too heavily interested in. However, if I take all the pre-reqs for all the classes I want to take by senior year, it leaves my senior year the only possible year for me to take both of those required electives. I’m a bit worried that if I do this colleges will think I’m slacking off my senior year. Should I go through with my current plan and take some MOOCs to make up for the “easy” classes, or should I try to take away some of the classes that I want to take early on?
Thanks.
Bump…
Some schools let students take courses over the summer, like PE. My daughter’s school lets them do PE outside school, or has her participation on a sports team count as physical ed.
If you could do that, it would open a slot in your schedule.
If you can, see if your school has summer PE/health.
This is a bit of a late reply, but it’s very possible that you could take PE over the summer or as an alternate PE credit. Check with your school to see if this is an option. Some schools offer an on-site summer PE, which consolidates the gym curriculum into a few-week span. Also, online PE classes tend to be easier, which could be a boost to your GPA (or at least it wouldn’t hurt, since some schools don’t include PE in GPA calculations). For art, you may be able to take that over the summer as well, but if not, take it senior year. I agree that it wouldn’t be preferable to take a year of art and PE both senior year, because this class space could be used more efficiently.
“Required electives” seems like an oxymoron.
@TomSrOfBoston That’s true… :)) but my school has “required electives” too.
Thanks for your responses? Unfortunatley, I looked around, and my county doesn’t offer gym and art classes (of which I need 1 credit each to graduate) online or during the summer. Any other suggestions?
