I have taken both the old and new PSATs and performed far, far better on the new PSAT. I have not studied much at all for the current SAT, and I only have two weeks or so now, and as such I doubt I’d be able to achieve a satisfactory score. The New SAT seems better for me and I actually have time to prepare for it- why is everyone so concerned about being guinea pigs for the college board- isn’t it all a matter of percentiles in the end of the day anyway? I have studied for the ACT, and that is more similar to the new SAT as well. If I take the current SAT and do poorly on it, can I keep these scores to myself? What difference will there be in admissions submitting the current SAT versus the new SAT? Currently I am thinking, “why not?” on taking the current SAT, though I am concerned the next few weeks could overload my school schedule all for a score I most likely wont end up submitting, and I am wondering if these scores are kept to myself if they are in fact subpar. Will colleges know you took both the current & new SAT? Suppose I send in my new SAT scores- will they ask/require me to send in the current SAT scores as well? Are any colleges requiring the current SAT for the class of 2017?
Hmm. It’s a tough call and totally personal. But it sounds to me like you don’t want to take this test. If you have not really prepped for it, since it is the last time it is offered and the scores won’t super-score with the new version, it seems to me like it would be a waste of a Saturday morning. While I definitely advised students to avoid the new test if they could get their prep done early, really that ship has sailed. And though it is less familiar, the new test is really still just another test – prep for it and take it two or three times and you will probably come out close to where you would have on the old test. But you seem to know this already. So since you feel that it is unlikely that you will go in and crush January to the point where you won’t need more SATs, I’m not sure that I see the up-side of taking that test.
On the other hand, if you decide to take it, you should prep all out. So don’t let another week go by just to re-post this question! If you are going to do it…get to work
