Should I reply to this email? Or sit tight and wait?

I am currently an undergraduate senior and applied for a post-grad employment position in New York. I got a reply message a week later that they would be reviewing materials in three weeks and then get back to me. Should I sit tight and wait for three weeks or send a short reply/notice? If the latter should be done, what should I write to them? Thanks!

my guess is they are probably going to looks at stuff after the holidays…

if you really want to send them something in response, you can say “Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you in a few weeks. Happy Holidays, Jorge”

I wouldn’t do that though. I would save your email for 3+ weeks from now if you haven’t heard anything, that way when you email, it will only be the first email, and you won’t be “that obnoxious kid who is bothering people.”

just my opinion though… I don’t know what sector you are going into (and if it’s in NY, it’s surely different than my chosen field)

interesting, i am looking to see what’s the standard practice/what approach has worked the best. btw, it’s a RA job at a think tank in NY and im a poli sci major

I tend to agree with the soccer guy. Nobody is doing all that much work around the holidays, and they wouldn’t expect you to respond to an email. That email was just a courtesy to you, to let you know that they haven’t forgotten you.

The end of the year is a very busy time for almost everyone. If the people at your think tank need to do any EOY reviews, close out year end financial business, etc., they won’t have very much time to do anything outside of the day-to-day, including recruiting; it wouldn’t be fair to applicants if they tried.

Sit tight, and if you haven’t heard back by the Monday after MLK Day, shoot a quick email reiterating your interest.

Out of curiosity, what kind of think tank are you going for / what kind of polisci research work have you done? I did a good bit of PSCI research in college and absolutely loved it!

well, that is pretty close to my field then. I did an internship at a think tank in DC (where there are a million). I stand by my answer then that you don’t need to email… check in again in the middle of January.
