Should I retake? (2220)

I’m a junior, and I took the SAT for the first time in March and got a 2220 (720 CR, 760 M, 740 W). I also plan to take the subject tests for Math II and Chemistry as well as the AP tests for Calc BC and Chemistry.

Would it be a good idea to take the subject tests in May (since I already have to study for APs) and then retake the SAT in June?

Should I retake the SAT if one of the schools I’m aiming for is Duke? (probably major in engineering)

Thanks

If you feel confident in your ability to answer a couple more questions correctly in each section, then go for it (especially since you’ve only taken the SAT once). But know that your existing scores still make you a competitive applicant for schools of Duke-caliber. For now, I would recommend focusing on AP tests and SAT Subject tests (Math II and Chem since you’re in BC and AP Chem). Since there are some differences between AP tests and Subject tests, though, it may even be advisable for you to take the SAT Subject tests in June (once you’ve cooled off from AP season and school) so that you will have a little bit of time to review SAT-specific content.

So to answer your question, no, don’t retake the 2220 if you feel that the score doesn’t make you a competitive applicant because it does. However, if you think that you can boost your accuracy up to nearly 100%, it certainly doesn’t hurt to retake it. Worse comes worse, you still have a pretty solid score to fall back on.

I think you should retake, you might do a lot better. On your second try you’ll be less nervous and you’ll have a better idea of what to expect. I got a similar score to yours on my first try (actually a little lower) decided to retake, and got a 2400 which is a crazy increase!
If you are sick of the sat and really don’t think you have it in you though, don’t do it. Your score is already phenomenal, I mean its the 99th percentile most people don’t get that high at all! But if you feel up for it, and you have energy to keep doing review, your retake could be much higher. It’s your call, just know your current score will not disqualify you from any school.

Thanks for the advice @EngineBus2015 and @sillyface! I registered for the May SAT IIs yesterday, and I’m going to leave June open for now.
