I am pretty sure I can get an 800 second time, just had some trouble with the first. By the way I'm looking at some top tier schools, need high scores.
Does 800 make a difference from 740?

Probably not that much. I got into Dartmouth with a 750....

So, only if you want to go to HYPSM, in my opinion.

If you are absolutely, positively sure that you can score an 800, go for it.
It's just a quick hour-long exam, it isn't four to five hours like the SAT I.

Might as well, you've got nothing to lose.

Thanks, but what about colleges like Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech? What are average SAT II test scores for these (in total for all 3)

My suggestion would be if you are already planning on taking an SAT II that day, take it. If not don't bother. My visceral feeling when I see a 740 is, wow thats a really good score.
Also at a Carnegie Mellon meeting at my school (which is generally harder than G-Tech, and easier than Cornell, unless you apply to CS which is harder than both) the rep. said they consider 700+ good, and the average is a 720.

Top schools expect high 600s to 800.
