Should I retake a SAT 1 test ?

Dear Wise parents:

Should I retake a SAT 1 test when on my first attempt in SAT, I scored 800 M, 800 V, and 700 in writing? I scored a PSAT of 236 (80 M, 76 V and 76 Writing). I have not taken any prep class for SAT. And if the answer is yes how should I improve the writing score.

What class are you in?

Ask yourself, "what it the marginal value of a higher score?" How much more competitive will it make me vs. spending the time doing something else that might make you more competitive?

The score is high enough to impress everyone as it is. Spend the time you would otherwise spend preparing to show everyone how smart you are, working at a homeless shelter or helping out in the community and show them how well rounded you are.

Better check your math there whiz kid ;) I see a 232 PSAT
Anyway, I'd stand pat if I were you. Most colleges don't seem to know what to make of the writing test yet, and you've got pretty high score in it anyway. You have no where to go but down on the two more important sections, and what do you think the odds are of being able to repeat that 1600? I think your score in one sitting is impressive enough as it is.

depends on what kept you low on W, was it the multiple choice subscore or essay?

but, if you s/n is your passion, then math schools don't care about no stinkin' writin'

My D is hs senior this year and most of the schools she looked at stated they would not even consider the writing for fall 2006 admissions. The reason given was that it was so new and they weren't sure how much emphasis to place on it. Your 800 verbal along with 800 math says it all. I agree with LFWB dad. Consider SAT 1 over for you! Congrats.

I definitely do not think you need to take it again. Enjoy sleeping in while your friends are up early on those Saturday mornings!

All but one of my schools is considering the writing, by the way.

Wow. I wouldn't mess with those lovely 800s just to tweak the writing a bit. Use your essays to show them how well you write.

My two cents.
