Should I retake my ACT just for the math section?

I am super pleased with my ACT composite of 35 but I only got a 33 in math compared to my reading/english/science scores of 35/56. I plan on applying to math-oriented schools like CMU (where the avg ACT math is a 35). Should I retake the ACT just for the math section?
Also, would getting a good score on the AP Calc/Math level 2 tests make up for the math ACT score? Thanks

You cannot take only one section of the ACT exam. You would need to take the entire exam again.

Take the SAT math II subject test to demonstrate your ability in math. If you have the background, you can also take the physics subject test for similar reasons.

It depends on the Major… it may be helpful to have a higher score if it is Math, Physics or Engineering. SAT II scores works well in most cases.

Is that from 1 try? If you take it again and get a 34C with a 36 Math which would you submit to colleges?

If you were my child I’d support your decision either way. I can see where you don’t really need to take it again but I can see why it’s not crazy to want to improve your individual score in Math even if your composite stayed at 35.

It also depends on if the school you apply to will look at each section independently and “super score”. If that’s the case I don’t see how you can lose.
