Should I retake Nov. test? (negative campaigns)

So I was expectiving a 2400 or definitely above a 2350. I was cognizant of the fact that November test has a tougher curve, but CR as some know was ridiculous on that day. I ended up with a 2340. Don't tell me to get a life...please. I am devastated since I already lost a bet with my friend for not even breaking 2350. Any help will be appreciated.

What was the breakdown of your scores? How many times have you taken the test? What is your superscore? For high achievers like you, I know it can be hard to accept doing less than expected. However, 2340 usually won’t warrant a retake except for under special circumstances.

Thanks for the input @cheerios. My flaw was the 740 crit. reading. This is my second time a took the test. I got a 2100 the first time. My question is, similar to all of the other Nov. test takers, if I should retake. It is a special circumstance. I spoke with a Northeastern Univ. admin. officer and UC Irvine counselor. This is one of the most nefarious curves they have seen. At the same time, scores aren’t everything…you could always score lower…

I’ve read somewhere that frankly, only you’re breaking into the 2300s, it’s essentially the same as a 2400 in the eyes of admissions. I’m in the same boat as you; 2280 composite, 690 math. I’m going to retake the SAT for a higher superscore, but honestly, a 740 CR won’t make or break you. You are doing fine.

^I’ve heard that too. Congrats on your score! 10 points isnt a big difference.

If you’re (1)confident that you can do better, (2) have the time and willpower to retake, and (3), if the colleges you are applying for are elite, then retaking might not be a bad idea.

However, if you’re going into math/science, CR won’t matter as much.

It’s a personal choice you’ll have to decide for yourself, but I’d be pretty satisfied with that score.

From what I’ve heard, anything in the 2320~2360 area is regarded as the same. Your SAT scores are right on for most Ivy League applicants, so if I were you, I wouldn’t retake.

I do understand where your coming from though; I’m guessing you got better scores on practice tests? If you really really really really really feel like you NEED that 2400, and you have ALOT of time on your hands, I guess you could go for an 800 on CR and superscore.

Btw, I took the same November test with negative campaigning, and it was a lot easier than normal, which killed the curve. Compared to October, the curve was absolutely horrible, so people who made mistakes got lower scores than usual. I’m guessing that happened to you?

I understand your disappointment, BUT, really??? There is so much more to your application than a perfect SAT score. 60 points will make NO difference to the admissions officers at any school. Spend the time doing community service, perfecting your essay, or something to make yourself stand out from the other applicants.
