Hey everyone,
I'm currently a Junior with an SAT score of 2210 (800 M 700 W 710 CR). I'm planning to apply to Ivys, UChicago, and the like, and this SAT score i know is on the low side for these schools (considering i'm an asian male). However, i have a 35 ACT ( i only took it once, but i got 36/36/35/34 math/science/reading/writing or english or whatever its called).

I was wondering whether or not I should retake the SATs in maybe october. I think that i could probably get a higher score, say 2300 range, if i work at it a bit over the summer, but i'm not sure if my good ACT will negate my mediocre SAT.

Why not? Unless you have something really important to do this summer you should consider it. It might be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection.

Many of those schools will do SAT/ACT + subject tests. In this case, you’re set and you can just send the ACT and not the SAT. Some others do SAT+subject tests…OR just the ACT. In this case, you’re also set.

Some schools require “all SAT scores” which includes SAT and subject tests. So if you plan on submitting subject tests, you would also have to submit the 2210. Aside from this scenario, you wouldn’t have to worry about sending the SAT. Only if schools require this requirement would you maybe think about retaking the SAT. Check the requirements of each school and adjust accordingly.

Even if you did send the 2210 and the 35, I think the 35 would still stand out. But one can never be sure…

Your 35 is really good and should do the trick. That said why not try the SAT one more time? It should only help you. Good Luck!

Ok thanks for the replies guys,
I took SAT subject tests in Math2 and physics in June (just a few days ago) so i don’t know how those will be, but i’m pretty confident i got 780+ on both. I’ll wait till those come out, then see what colleges require b4 i decide on taking another SAT (hopefully i don’t have to… standardized testing sux)
