On the May test, I got a 740 (math) 740 (critical reading) and a 680 (writing). should i retake them? i am happy with my math and cr scores, but I wasn't too happy with my writing score. However, i am afraid that if i retake the SATs, i could potentially get a lower score on the other sections. what should i do?

If you do choose to retake, most colleges will consider your highest score from each section, so your math and verbal can't drop below 740 in the eyes of Adcoms. I see you're from California - the UC's are an exception to this generalization - they only consider your highest single sitting score. Also, If you're class of 2010, remember that many colleges will not be using the writing score for admissions since your class is a transition year between the old and new SAT. I would base the decision on a couple factors: 1) What types of schools are you applying to? 2) Do you think you can improve your verbal significantly - do you have time to practice and prepare?
