I just received my scores from the February ACT. I got a composite score of 35 (33 Math, 34 Reading, 35 English, 36 Science) but only received a 25 on the writing portion, which brings my english/writing combined score down to a 31. Should I retake the ACT solely to raise my writing score because it is significantly lower than the others? Also, if I retake the ACT and score a lower composite but a higher writing score, can I combine my 35 composite with the better writing?
Thanks for replying to my post! I heard that the writing score is far, far less important than the composite. I heard that colleges based a lot of your writing skills through your application essays. A 35 composite is really good, so I wouldn’t recommend taking it again since you can’t combine a better writing score from another test date.
you’re funny. You got a 35 and you’re thinking of retaking. Writing is being phased out anyway.
I was in a similar situation. I got a 35 and scored 48th percentile in the writing yet I got into a school with a single digit acceptance rate. If I were you, I’d go have a nice picnic and celebrate your score.
No need to retake it. For class of 2021 a bunch of colleges won’t even be requiring writing any more.
Hold up, writing is being phased out for our class? BTW OP I heard the ACT messes up alot with writing scores so If you re-score it, what a lot of people have said is that it tends to raise their score
@Coldsummer123 where did you get into, despite your low writing score? do you think that would be a good score for HYPS despite the low writing score
@dcplanner where did you hear that colleges will no longer be requiring writing? and If they don’t require it, is it one of those situations where its not required but in reality not sending it in and doing well will adversely affect your admissions? How do you think this will play out in competitive schools in general?
http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/act-writing-and-sat-essay-requirements/ Here is one of the articles about it. I guess part of it is due to the change in the SAT. It doesn’t sound like it will even be recommend like some schools are with the SAT2s. It doesn’t seem like they consider writing as much as it is now anyway.
I got into UChicago. Tbh, I think if you write a good personal statement and supplements the writing score it shouldn’t matter a whole lot.
