should i retake the SAT in june?

i'm a junior, and i got a 2260 (730CR, 770M, 760W) in march. i'm planning on applying to some very selective schools and i'm afraid my CR score isn't high enough. i would also love an 800 on math because i know i'm capable of it. the problem is that i'm afraid of scoring lower...has anyone with a similar score retaken it? if so, did you improve? any advice would be appreciated.

I got a similar score in January and am retaking it in June for a 2300+ at least.

thats what i was aiming for, a 2300…i just feel like the odds of me doing worse are higher that the odds of getting the 2300. anyone else in the same situation?

well it doesn’t matter does it? they’ll just take the higher scores, it can’t really hurt to take it again.

that’s what most schools say, but i feel like they don’t want to see a downward trend. maybe i’m just paranoid. i might just not retake it because i don’t want to spend another saturday at the SAT…

lol at least you have a 2260…my highest sitting is a 1900, including a lovely 590 on writing.

So, what do I do to study for this SAT (5/1)? Study Writing a lot and CR…while completely ignoring math and bombing it.

Needless to say, I’m retaking it, and by June 4th, all ten BB tests will be completed and I’ll finish out my PR book if I have to. Plus finish the last 300 pages of Grubers and buy Direct Hits. fun times ahead

grghhhh

Based off of that, no, you shouldn’t retake. At extremely high scores (2300+), I think one should only retake if he or she is absolutely confident in a higher score. People who have a “Well I did really good on X section, but I don’t think I did my best on Y section. However, I might not be able to duplicate my performance on X section a second time” mindset probably won’t gain much from another testing day.

why do people worry about this when there’s score choice? Please enlighten me

you can only choose scores by date, not by section. so if i do better in CR but considerably worse in math, i’ll have to send the lower math score if i want to send the higher CR score. i know i’m overthinking it, but i was just curious what other people thought.

Not all schools implement score choice/superscore.

^how do they even know if you send in all your scores or not though?

Schools that want all SAT scores sent might get curious if you didn’t take them for both Junior year and Senior year. It sends 2 flags to admissions offices; “Did you just plan poorly and not even sign up for SATs in Jr. year?” or "Are you hiding something?. You probably have a much better chance of not sending SAT scores if you took them back to back (May and June) and just send the best one.
