Hi, everyone. I'm currently a junior. Well, I'm really fighting against myself as to whether I should retake the SAT Reasoning Test. On the first time, I got 2260 (800math,800writing,660critical reading). What's really bugging me is the critical reading section. I'm trying to get into top-notch schools, so I'm just hoping that my cr section will go to at least 700.

But the thing is...if i retake the SAT I, it'll be in march...I also have sat II chem in january, sat II literature in (feb?), sat II physics in june, as well as ap english test, ap us history test, and ib physics test, and ib math test... those are towards the end of the year, but i feel like im being crammed during the spring with all these tests.

I was really hoping for a 2300+ my first try, but I know that if I get higher on cr the next time, my superscore will be better.

Anyways, I know most colleges won't care if the score is in the same "category"...like a 2320 and a 2340 won't make any difference. But will a 2260 and a 2300+ make a difference, since it's the next 100 point mark?

I've been arguing with myself over whether I should retake it. If I do end up deciding to retake it, I will be attending a class once a week to improve my cr score. It won't take up too much of my time, but I feel stressed already knowing how many tests I have coming up...

DO NOT TAKE SUBJECT TESTS ON DIFFERENT DATES. just get them over with. taking them on the same date helps you to not overstudy for each paper and it costs less. trust me on this one. most people i know take three on the same day and get 3 x 800 for them (i took 2 and i regret not taking a third as well).

Retake it. Most colleges value the M + CR score more. Also, there's no SAT in Feb. Do your best to study the subject tests over winter break so you can take them both in January.

i dont dare take more than 1 SAT II on a single day...It just intimidates me lol. I'd rather study intensely for 1 subject, then take it and not worry about it any more and move on to studying for the next exam.

Based on my experiences, I recommend that you take two - no more or no less - SAT II per date. Three was a little overwhelming for me - my third score was compromised because my brain was too fatigued after the first two. But then again, everybody is different. You may not need as many mental breaks as do I. However, take more than one test per date.

I'm a junior too and I got a 2230 in Oct but with low M and CR scores.
I plan on taking it next Oct. That way I won't be too stressed with SATII/AP exams that are coming up in the spring. And also, I can study during the summer without having to juggle my schoolwork.
I know that's the last time I'll be taking the SAT and it's early senior year so I won't be worried about getting the score to the colleges on time or anything.

But that's just my plan! I don't know if Oct will work for you ..just a suggestion!

It also might be a good idea to take 2 SAT subject tests in one day..like chem and lit? or physics and lit? Since there's not much "studying" for lit..just practice tests. And from what I've heard Lit is really hard..so if you don't do well in Jan you could try again in June after AP exams are out of the way.

But it seems like you have the potential to get 700+ on CR so go give it another try! Having AP English for a year might help with that!
