Hi everybody! So I ended up getting a 750 on the US History SAT and a 740 on the Math II :'( I'm definitely retaking the math SAT and aiming for a 800 but should I retake the History SAT in October? (I'm thinking of retaking it just to get a higher score). Also, will it hurt me if I retake the SAT subject tests numerous times? The schools and programs I'm applying to allow Score Choice but will it be okay if I retake the tests two or more times?

I wouldn’t.

You would be fine if you take those tests more times if you score choice, but honestly based off where you are at there is a very negligible difference with the scores. SAT IIs are often only one part of the application, and a stronger applicatio overall will mean more than a retake for 50 points on a subject test

I’d retake Math II if you really feel you can get an 800, but I don’t think retaking US would be worth it. A 750 is still a strong score!

@frozens I agree with you, since I really doubt that I’ll be able to score any higher on history. For the math I’ll retake it in october and aim for 780+

I don’t think there’s any point in retaking Math2 to aim for a 780. A 740 is 62nd percentile, 780 is 76th percentile, and 800 is 83rd percentile. This means a lot of people get 800. If you’re doing great on the practice tests then you may wanna retake, but I don’t think it’ll make any difference in your application. A strong SAT Math score + good grades in your math classes will be way more indicative. Even if you get an 800, no adcom is going to think you’re way better at math now because you studied for a few months, and a 740 is a solid score.

@An0maly I guess I’ll retake it since I got 800s and high 700s on previous practice tests so I’m hoping this time was a fluke since it was my first time taking a subject test

I think your scores are good enough
