Should I take the SAT again?

I've already registered for the December ACT, so there's that. My highest combined score is 2240 (680 verbal, 800 math, 760 writing). I am applying to Brown, UChicago, Cornell, Duke, MIT, and UPenn (for now). I tutored SAT for the summer so my score will probably go up, but I'm not too keen on paying another $50. Should I retake the SATs?

Oh, also, I'm a freshman.

Bump… I feel like none of my questions are being answered on this forum.

Wait, are you applying as a transfer or as a freshman from high school?

What was your ACT score?

I am now a college freshman applying to be a sophomore. I had a 34 ACT, but my reading score was a bit lower (30), so I’m retaking to see what I can do.

Bump again, need to register soon if I want to take the November SAT.

Just send the 34.

I’m not exactly sure if this is true, but I’m in a similar situation (750 R, 740 M, and 650 W with little studying before each time I took it - 3 times total), but aren’t you going to have to pay $10 per score report anyway? You get 4 score reports free by taking it one more time, so the $50 might be looked as only a $10 cost if you think about it that way. Anyways, I’m considering some of the schools you’re applying to (well, UChic at least) so best of luck and what college are you transferring from? Is it worth retaking these aptitude tests if you’re a transfer?

^ I didn’t think about it that way but the score report fee thing is certainly true. I registered for the December SAT. I’m a freshman at NYU and I’ve read on this board that if you are transferring in as a sophomore, it’s probably a good idea to take these tests again, but if you are a junior transfer and have a “good enough” score already, you probably won’t need to retake. Good luck to you too.

If you are doubting it. DO IT!

Haha lullina I’m also a freshman at nyu (stern for me). I just feel like for 60k a year I should at least try for top tier Ivies/schools, which is omethin I didnt do in hs (although Stern is comparable to top 10-20 schools). I like nyu, but might as well try for something better.

^Whaaaa! I’m in Stern too! What cohort? I’m Chelsea. I want to do engineering or computer science and my parents won’t pay for me to do engineering unless it was a top 15 school (I know, ridiculous). I honestly don’t think I’m carved out for business.

I’m in east vil lol. You could double major comp sci/finance, which is what I might do.

I would really rather not do business. I was pressured into going to business school by my parents. And I must admit doing engineering at Poly would kind of suck.

haha wow this is crazy, my SAT score is 10 points away from yours and i am planning a retake for the january test.
i have noticed that there are a lot of transfers from NYU for some reason?

good luck with your retake

The $50 is totally irrelevant.

Try to raise your verbal to a 700.

Since there is superscoring at most colleges, you have nothing to lose.

My son raised his math from a 660 to a 700 with zero studying, and his CR from a 730 to an 800 with zero studying.

Since you are applying to top schools, every point counts.
