I'm 17, white (hispanic) . (see here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=126916), I really don't have any ECs, and I'm homeschooled, so no GPA either.

Now the math is justified... I'm horrible at math and haven't even studied it in a while... But with the writing section, I hadn't slept the night before, and looking at what they sent me in the mail, this probably caused me to forget to do the last 10 questions... I don't even remember writing more than a paragraph for the essay (I got a 6. I didn't even seriously try... I know, I'm a psychopath...). But on my PSAT I got 680 for writing, so I'm thinking I could probably improve what I got by some in the January SAT, and then apply to schools with a Feb-1 deadline (some colleges I'm looking at have deadlines up to March) but I don't know if it hurts to turn in applications too close to the deadline and if I would simply have a better chance turning them in as is. Nor do I even know how important the writing section is--as far as I know it was forced on CB by the UC system, but most schools never required it.

Also, though she can speak English, I speak Spanish exclusively to my mother, but... I don't know if that's good enough to take a Spanish SAT subject test. How much do subject tests help anyway?

To be honest, I'm not exactly selective as to where I go. I just would rather live in Southern California as opposed to Northern, but I don't know how much these scores, not having a GPA, and having no real ECs to speak of will cripple me. Does anyone know what there is in my range or just what type of place I can go to in general? I have no clue.

My dad did seasonal factory work my whole life at around $30,000-40,000 a year, but the plant is going to close in a couple of months and he's already laid off for good. He's overly frugal, so the family's fine, but my question on this is--if I qualify for a lot of financial aid, will this be a negative because I'll cost a lot? Ridiculous question, right?

Oh, by the way, I have the equivalent of a HS diploma (not a GED, but the actual legal equivalent), so I'm clear there, if that changes anything.

Um, thanks.
