Should I Retake the SAT?

I got a 2140 on the March SAT: 740 CR, 610 Math, 790 Writing (80/80 multiple choice, 8/12 essay)

It was my first time taking it and I took it cold (aside from the PSAT.
To give you an idea, my PSAT scores were 80 CR, 55 math, 77 writing in sophomore year and 71 CR, 64 math, and 67 writing junior year.

I know I need to improve my math, ideally to above a 700. My main problem with math is speed. I’m happy with my language scores though. I guess I could potentially get an 800 on either one of them given my 790 writing and 80 CR (PSAT), so that would obviously be great, but not a huge deal. I’m not super uptight about getting really high scores or dead-set on going to a top tier school, I just think having a solid score would be really helpful. I guess 2200 would be a pretty good goal.

So should I retake them this spring, wait for next year, or just stick with what I got? And how should I study? – free resources would be great, esp. tips for the essay/math section. My guidance counselor said to wait for next fall since my scores are good enough, but my parents said I should retake it in may.

Thanks! : )

I would take it a second time because your math might need some work. The SAT math is one of the easiest things to improve on and improving will not do any bad. SO go for it a second time!!! It can’t hurt!!!

Your score is pretty good, but I would take it again, because as littlemonster said the math is pretty easy rto prepare for. You should try taking it in June and spend the next few months really preparing! Good luck!

I would suggest to retake it but do not loose sleep over it. The time depends on what else is going on (Ap exams, EC etc). Ideally it would be nice to be done by June but if it is less stressful you could do it in the fall. It is very realistic to aim at a math score of 680 to 690.

ya sat math just takes a bit of practice to get used to  I would definitely suggest you study and retake it
