I’m an Asian American and I always hear from other Asians around me that in order to get into top tier schools you have to have stellar SAT scores. I know my score is pretty good (1540 but my essay was only 17) and I would rather not have to retake the test, but I sometimes worry that my score will cause me trouble when trying to get into those higher level colleges because I’m Asian and many Asians in my school are getting higher SAT scores (Also my essay score wasn’t that great!). I understand that test scores aren’t everything and that you need good essays too, but I wonder if my score will be enough considering my race even if I have good essays. I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice on this matter! Thank you so much!
A 1540 is a great score. If your sub scores are both high, I would encourage you to be done. Focus on other parts of your application - writing great essays, AP tests, SAT II subject tests, etc…
As even Asians with single sitting perfect scores aren’t good enough for top tier adcoms, it’s not worth it to retake a 1540. Instead work on other aspects of your resume.
Are you referring to the reading and math scores with subscores? I had a 750 reading and 790 math, would those be considered high?
And thank you momofsenior1 and CupCakeMuffins, I was thinking the same but I have a lot of pressure being surrounded by so many accomplished people at my school who are getting great scores so I sometimes feel like my score may hurt me
Scoring 790 out of a possible 800 is considered a high score. Scoring 750 out of 800 is excellent as well.
Your sub scores are great. Congrats on being done with this part ; )
Thanks! But I’m still wondering whether I still have a good chance at getting into schools like the Ivy league with 1540 as my score even with good essays?
*I mean considering that I’m Asian
If it’s really bothering you then take it again or you’ll keep wondering all your life about what if I took it again.
