I got a 1500 on the SAT and I’m aiming for schools such as Brown, Cornell, UChicago, and Williams. I’m also Asian. Do you guys think I need to improve my score?
You’re just about at the 99th percentile with your current score. SAT scores are only one part of the whole application - I would recommend focusing on improving other aspects of your application.
Are you a rising senior or junior? What were your sub scores and how many times have you taken the SAT? If you scored 800/700 and you have only taken it once, it may make sense to take it one more time and focus on getting the 700 sub score up for schools that superscore. If you are 750/750 and especially if you have already taken it multiple times, your time may be better spent on studying up for SAT2’s and working on your essays if you are a rising senior.
I’m a rising senior, and it was my second time taking it. 740 english, 760 math.
Focus on the rest of your application. Congrats on a great score.
It’s probably going to be the rest of the application that is more important. Your score is on the lower side for, those schools. Try the ACT.
SAT2 scores? If you already have taken 2 and have scored mid 700’s, and feel you have time to prep 1 more time for the SAT or ACT, may be worth it. Understand though the 1500 as is won’t be the reason you get denied. If not, spend your test prep time on the SAT2’s.
If you’ve only taken it once, I’d take it again as you never know and many colleges superscore. I don’t think it will make much difference though. I had a friend who went from a 750/750 to a 790/710. Same total, but if a college superscores…
That said, I think it’s more important to work on your essays and make the most of this summer.
