should I retake?

Is a 2180 SAT high enough to be competitive at UofC if I have enough extracurriculars and a high gpa and stuff, or should I retake?

Basically whether or not my SAT is high enough is going to be the deciding factor in whether or not I have any peace of mind this year (EA vs RD)

Depends, what are your CR and Math scores? Chicago ignores the writing scores. Also, remember SAT's are way down the list of important admit factors, see Libby's discussion of this on this forum.

CR=690
M=790

I know it's a big gap, but it's still decent, right?

you have the same scores as i do, and i think my chances at chicago are as good as anyone's. i guess your GPA, ECs, etc will also come into play. your SAT is fine IMO. i think your essays mean more than your SATs, but if one has bellow a 1300 (which you do not) then it's panic time.

Oh, yeah, then I'd worry. I know I'm in the middle 50% for verbal, in the top 25% for math, according to the college board profile, so I figured that was ok, but then I'm never sure.

I always say why not retake? I gained 150 points after some studying. Scores are not pivotal at U of C, but just the same isn't it worth the effort?

well I'm taking SAT IIs for some other shcools in October, so I'd be retaking in November, which would mean no EA (no peace of mind by December 15th), plus it's an extra 40ish bucks that I'm not going to spend if I don' have to.

Do EA AND retake. If you don't get in, a raised score could helped the deferred.

ooh, good idea drummerdude

One can do that to help one's case, but if deferred EA, it won't be because of the SAT scores.

I have the same CR and Math scores you do. I guess my writing is much better tho. I think you should be fine for chicago, so long as you do not say you want to be an english major. However, just retake the test if you are not happy with your score. I retook it and studied a lot less than the first time i took the SAT. I raised my score 130 points. I guess i was more relaxed. Your scores are solid though and they should not keep you out, that is up to all other parts of your app.

I want to be a chemistry major. I didnt' study at all before I took it, and I'm happy with it as long as it gets me into at least one of the top 3 schools on my list (Chicago, Columbia, Dartmouth)

haha, I would have been happy with any SAT score if it got me into my top choices, but thats what makes this process so ****ty, wondering if you think you're good enough.

Your scores are much better than mine were. Idad's right once again on this one, if they like you, those scores won't keep you out.

dont focus too much on the sat's... i got a 690 on CR too and slightly lower on the M. overall, my scores were lower than average, so don't worry too much!
but really, your SAT's aren't the main factor in the uchic application!!!!
focus most on your essays cuz that's where the jackpot is/should be!

my sat scores was a 740 math and 670 in cr (also 730 in writing). I got in. The only reason why I might consider retaking them is if you think you can actually improve your CR score. If you think you can, take them! If you can only match it, just know that your scores are fine!
