I am trying to decide if I want to retest in June or not. My April ACT scores are:
Composite: 32
English: 33
Math: 31
Reading: 32
Science: 30

My parents feel that I should not retest, but I really believe that I can do better. I am very happy with my score, but I know that I made a few silly mistakes in math and science. I believe that if I buy a study guide, my score should increase (hopefully 34+). So, do you believe that I should retest or not?

I have a very similar problem but i have a composite of 33, it really depends on whether or not you have the time to prep for retesting, if you have a bunch of APs coming up and SATs then spending more time on the ACT might not be worth it! But there is score choice, and usually people go up the second time. Also it depends on the schools your interested in, if your going for HYPS or any top tier schools the higher the score the better. It all depends on if you have the time to make that additional saturday test worthwhile!

what schools are you applying to?

I am applying to SMU, UT Austin, Texas A&M, Rice, and NYU.

you can get into all of those schools with that ACT score including Rice and NYU

Agreed with scholar… no need to retake it to increase one point which is not even guaranteed.

Ok, thank you. I guess I am just being paranoid. However, could it make a significant difference in scholarship amounts if it were a 33 or 34 instead of a 32? Sorry for being picky, I just want to make sure that I make the right decision.

I think it depends on the earlier you apply, the more generosity they will give you as far as financial aid is concerned.
