My question:

Should I apply early to Stanford? (Will it help having a rec from Medical School Professor and being a URM) Or should i go for ea at mit and caltech?

I am competitive enough for scea at stanford?

Thanks in advance for your responces

Are AP Physics AB or BC not offered at your school? I’d say that NOT taking either AP physics class, IF they were offered and you did not take them, could put you at a serious disadvantage EA at MIT and CalTech since they are primarily science oriented. Also, I see no reason to take both AP Stats and BC Calculus. Maybe you could substitute a Physics class for the Stats[?] Or take one of the EPGY [ Stanford] AP Physics classes online? If you really want to be competative for those caliber of colleges, especially CT and MIT, it’s not the # of AP classes that count, but how rigorous they are. AP Stats and Environmental are considered AP “lite” classes compared to AP Chem and Physics classes.

You’re definetly competitive enough, and I can’t see a reason for you not to apply SCEA, just because with your current scores, classes, and the rec from a professor, you really have no more room to improve. As for the decision on which school to do ea at- I think you should go with Stanford. All these schools are competitive to start with, but Stanford is the one you really love. You can always apply regular decision for the others if things don’t work out.

^ They’re two different types of math, Menlo, and if you hadn’t noticed, she’s already taking AP Chem. You also have to remember the fact that all AP sciences require after school labs, and with the amount of extracurriculars she has, I don’t think she can afford that. Besides, I highly doubt that just one less AP Science when she’s already taken/getting ready to take 2 will kill her admissions chances, espescially in light of her obviously sciences friendly ec’s and huge roster of other APs.

inconspicuous, I can read. I know that they are 2 diff kinds of math, and I was addressing the RIGOR and difficulty of Stats vrs Calculus BC.
1]“the fact that all AP sciences require after school lab” - no, many schools have AP labs during school. maybe they are after school for your school.
2]I wasn’t talking about 1 LESS AP I was talking about the lack of an AP Physics class for someone trying to get into 2 of the most competative tech colleges in the nation. Trust me, they DO look at what AP classes students take, not just how many they take. Physics is one of the 3 cornerstone classes for science majors, along with Chemistry and Advanced Math. The OP will be at a serious disadvantage compared to the thousands of other students applying to those 2 schools who HAVE taken AP Physics.

Excellent chances at S. Apply SCEA and I think you’d get in.

Well, Kampalaca, take what advice you will. While I stilldon’t believe the OP will be at a SERIOUS disadvantage- after all, the other APs, though not “sciency”, are somewhat tough- if the OP is at a school with labs during the day, I agree that Stat would be a better class to self study, if she had to choose.

Menlo, “competative” is “competitive” !

ooops- my typing is not great.
